Acupuncture & Functional Medicine for Women

Your Labs Came Back Normal, But You Still Don't Feel “Normal”

You're exhausted, but sleep doesn’t help. Your cycle changed and nobody can tell you why. You've been told it's stress, or age, or that everything looks "fine," or even worse, that “it’s all in your head.”

Dr. Tatianna Sanabria has been specializing in multiple modality approaches to women’s health for over two decades. By incorporating science-based functional medicine with her deep love of energy work, she’s able to find what the standard panel missed, acknowledge the complexity of being a woman in this culture we live in, and tie together a treatment plan that is truly a holistic approach.

30 minutes via Zoom. No cost, and no obligation to become a patient.

Dr. Tatianna Sanabria

I've spent twenty years helping women work out what their bodies are actually doing.

I was born in Colombia, South America, studied Chinese medicine in China and then in the States, and I've been in practice here in Asheville ever since. As an acupuncturist, an herbalist, and a functional medicine practitioner, I believe in honoring the complexity in health. I see patients in English and Spanish.

Most of what I do is listen, and then look at the whole picture instead of one piece of it. Almost every woman who comes to me has been told nothing is wrong. Usually something is going on, and usually it's worth looking for.

If that sounds like where you are, I'd like to hear about it.

Elisa E.

There are so many things I appreciate about having Tatianna and Zachari as part of my primary wellbeing and healthcare team - their vast and deep knowledge of both functional medicine and eastern, traditional chinese medicine and acupuncture (and so much more) is rare and exactly what I was looking for to provide me with a truly integrated, holistic and informed approach to what my body needed.

Also the level of personalized genuine care makes all the difference - they both listen deeply and make you feel like you have a wise partner walking with you on your wellbeing path. I recommend them both highly for anyone seeking an integrated and knowledgeable approach.

If you're reading this, one of these is probably true...

  • You're tired in a way that sleep doesn't touch, and you've been tired for months
  • You're doing everything right and still gaining weight, still inflamed, still stuck
  • Your sleep changed. You fall asleep fine and wake at three, or you sleep eight hours and wake up tired
  • Your digestion turned on you — bloating, discomfort after eating, a gut that runs your day
  • Your periods got heavier, or more painful, or stopped being predictable
  • Your hair is thinning, or your libido is gone, and nobody mentioned either could be connected
  • You're angrier, more anxious, or flatter than you used to be, and it isn't like you
  • You're carrying pain or tension you've stopped bringing up, because nobody had an answer
  • You've had bloodwork. It came back "within range," which is not the same as feeling well
Somebody offered you an antidepressant for a hormone problem

Any one of these on its own is easy to dismiss. Together they're a pattern — and no one has connected the dots.

You've been told this is just part of being a woman. It isn't. And it isn't something you have to accept.

Why nobody has been able to help yet...

It isn't that you saw bad doctors. It's that nobody has been looking at the whole of you — and this doesn't show up unless somebody does.

A fifteen-minute appointment can't do it. Untangling fatigue, hormones, digestion, and mood takes an hour of questions before anyone draws blood. Nobody has that hour. So you get a prescription for the loudest symptom and a follow-up in six months.

"Normal range" is a wider net than you think. Standard lab ranges are built from the general population — a population that is not, on the whole, well. You can sit inside the range and be nowhere near your own baseline. Functional ranges are narrower, and they catch patterns years before a diagnosis does.

Even worse, nobody is looking at the whole picture. The gynecologist has your cycle. The endocrinologist has your thyroid. The GI doctor has your gut. Not one of them is looking at how the three are influencing each other.

You haven't failed at this. You've just been handed various diagnoses and asked to manage them alone.

What's Different Here

Most functional medicine practitioners will run good labs, find something real, hand you a supplement protocol, and see you in six weeks. That's genuinely better than what you've had. It's still only half of it.

Dr. Sanabria is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and a functional medicine practitioner. She combines acupuncture, functional medicine, and individualized lifestyle support to understand the patterns behind what you're feeling — and then treats them.

Understand it

A two-hour intake and targeted testing drawn from over a dozen specialty labs — hormones, thyroid, gut, blood sugar, inflammation, immune function. Read against functional ranges, not just standard ones.

Treat it

Acupuncture, targeted nutrients, and botanical support, in this office. Not a referral across town to somebody who hasn't seen your labs.

Work on it directly

Abdominal therapy and craniosacral work — hands-on, non-invasive, and aimed at settling your nervous system so your body is in better condition to respond to everything else. She's practiced abdominal therapy since 2004 and trained directly with Rosita Arvigo, including pre-conception through postpartum.

Is this you?

This is probably a fit if:

  • You've had symptoms for months or years and nobody has explained them
  • You want to know what's actually driving this, not just quiet it down
  • You're open to acupuncture and hands-on work alongside lab work
  • You want to be an active participant. This works when you do the between-visit part, not just the in-office part
  • You've been dismissed before and you're looking for someone who'll sit with the whole picture

This probably isn't a fit if:

  • You need urgent or emergency care
  • You want a single visit and a prescription
  • You want someone to fix it for you while nothing else changes
  • You're looking for the cheapest option in Asheville
  • You want a guarantee before you start. Nobody honest can give you one

I'd rather be open about who this isn't for. It costs a few bookings and saves you a lot of frustrating first appointments.

What actually happens

1

The free call — 30 minutes.

You talk to Dr. Sanabria, not a receptionist. You describe what's been going on. She asks a few questions and tells you honestly whether this is something she can help with. If it isn't, she'll say so.

2

The full picture — a two-hour initial visit.

Your history, your life, your goals, in real detail. Then targeted lab work drawn from over a dozen specialty labs, chosen for your situation rather than pulled off a standard panel.

3

Treatment, not just a plan.

Acupuncture, targeted nutrients and botanical support, and hands-on work in office — alongside individualized nutrition, sleep, movement, and stress support built for your actual life, not an ideal one. Reviewed and adjusted at regular follow-ups as your labs and your symptoms move.

Who you'll be talking to

Dr. Tatianna Sanabria

Tatianna graduated from the Wharton School of Business in 2001 and went straight to China — to learn the language, the culture, and the medicine. She came back and spent four years earning a master's in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Then she kept going: a year studying five-element acupuncture under David Ford, herbal medicine at the Blue Otter School, abdominal therapy under Rosita Arvigo, and every Apex functional medicine seminar there is. She's finishing a year-long course in functional immunology now.

Born in Colombia, she practices in English and Spanish. She specializes in family health and functional immunology, and what she cares about most is teaching women enough about their own bodies that they stop guessing.

Training and credentials:

  • Doctor of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine — Pacific College of Health & Sciences
  • Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine, four-year program — Oregon College of Oriental Medicine
  • Licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, state and national level
  • Abdominal therapy — trained with Rosita Arvigo, including pre-conception through postpartum
  • Five-element acupuncture — year-long intensive with David Ford
  • Herbal medicine — Blue Otter School of Native American and Western Herbs
  • All Apex functional medicine seminars: lab evaluation, endocrinology, thyroid, gut health, neurology
  • Cogence Immunology, year-long course, in progress
  • Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique Practitioner
  • Registered Hatha and Kundalini yoga teacher
  • Craniosacral therapist
  • Reiki Master

What other patients say

Katalina W.

I have experienced a deep transformation in my physical body as well as emotional body under the guidance of Tatianna. I initially sought healing and an understanding of bodily ailments, but the journey has been deeply profound and transformative in my mental and emotional bodies as well.

Alexandra W.

After being told by multiple health professionals that they couldn't do anything for me... they listened and validated my pain when so few others had, and most of all helped me feel hope for getting better. We set up protocols and a treatment plan, got labs done that no other doctor would have bothered to think of... If you go here, you will not be dismissed.

Tatianna is an incredible health specialist. She is extremely knowledgeable, smart, caring and passionate about well being and health.

Your free consultation

It's 30 minutes, via Zoom, at a time you pick.

You'll describe what's been happening. She'll ask about your cycle, your energy, your digestion, your sleep, and what you've already tried. At the end she'll tell you whether she thinks she can help, what working together would actually look like, and roughly what it would involve.
It costs nothing, and there's no pressure to book anything afterward.

And if she doesn't think she's the right person for what you're dealing with, she'll tell you that too, and point you toward someone who is. You'd be surprised how rarely that happens anywhere else.

Questions People Ask

What does it cost?
Your first visit following your free consultation is a comprehensive two-hour intake appointment — $425. That covers your full history, goal setting, and a written plan emailed to you afterward.

After that, visits are priced by length and type. You can view our entirely fee structure here.

Does acupuncture hurt?
The needles are hair-thin and virtually painless. Most women describe a dull warmth, or nothing at all. A lot of people are deeply relaxed by the end of a first session.

How long before I feel different?
It depends entirely on what we find and how long it's been going on. You'll get a realistic timeline at your first visit, from someone who has your labs in front of her — not a promise on a website.

Do I have to do acupuncture?
No. Some women come for functional medicine alone. Having all three approaches available means the plan adapts to you rather than the other way around.

¿Habla español? And can we do this remotely?
Dr. Sanabria was born in Colombia and practices fluently in Spanish and English. Functional medicine consultations are available by telehealth anywhere in the country. Acupuncture and abdominal therapy are in-office at our Sweeten Creek Road location.
